Why Oil Changes Matter

There are certain features on our vehicle that we can visually see or physically feel when they need to be serviced. Whether we notice the air in one of our tires is super low or the air conditioner just isn't half as cold as it used to be, there are certain things we can see and feel that remind us it's time for a tune up. However, there are just as many invisible features that require regular attention and it's vital that we don't forget these things just because they aren't as easy to see. One of the most important things we can do to maintain the health of our vehicle's engine is getting regular oil changes. While this might not always be something you immediately think of when you're thinking of what you should tune up on your vehicle, it should be at the top of your list.

When Should I Get it Changed?

The majority of us will be able to figure out when we are due for our next oil change based off when our last oil change occurred. However, if you don't remember when you last got your oil changed or it's a new car and you have yet to bring it in for an oil change, don't panic. You can always give your nearby auto repair center a call and let them know you're not certain when your next oil change should happen. If you've been there before they will be able to refer to your last appointment information and let you know when it would be best to bring the car in. In addition, you can always refer to your owner's manual, which will outline when you should get oil changes done on your vehicle.

Why Does it Matter?

Remember in The Wizard of Oz when the Tin Man desperately needs oil or else he'll freeze up and not be able to function? Your engine is pretty similar, only it's even more vital to your engine's health than it is for the Tin Man. The oil in your vehicle allows all the working metal parts to work together smoothly. Without the oil they would not be able to glide against one another, moving in harmony and allowing the engine to do its job. The more miles you drive the less oil you have and if your oil level becomes too low you can begin to have metal rub up against metal. This could lead to damage and costly repairs. Additionally, the oil helps collect any kind of dirt or grime that might be lurking in your engine, keeping it clean and in tip top health.

There are certain things with our vehicle that we can see with the naked eye might need repairs. Whether we notice a dent in our bumper or a window that's been cracked, it's easy to see a problem and know it needs to be tuned up. However, that doesn't mean there aren't still areas to maintain that are invisible to the naked eye. Finding a nearby auto repair shop who can provide you with regular oil changes can, in the end, be a game changer.
